The New Siem Reap Is Merely Beginning!
The new Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is set to open in Q4 2023. It can accommodate large aircraft used for intercontinental journeys with a runway length of 3,600 metres and a width of 45 metres.
What does this mean in terms of the city? During the first phase of the airport, we might expect up to 7 million passengers and 10,000 tonnes of cargo. Future expansions include a new special industrial zone near the airport and a highway connecting it to the city proper.
In a 750-hectare area, the USD 880 million project, which began in March 2020, would span 700 hectares and will be Cambodia’s largest airport. Angkor International Airport Investment is a joint venture between three Yunnan enterprises, notably Yunnan Investment Holdings, which signed a 55-year concession with Cambodia’s government in 2017.
The airport will be built in three phases, with the potential to handle Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft after the second stage is completed.
